BLACK COBRAAfter releasing their two incredibly well-received full lengths on At A Loss Recordings, Black Cobra has taken their rightful place atop the metal throne as the latest signing to the true home of all things heavy - SOUTHERN LORD! Their first Southern Lord release, Chronomega, finds them treading in familiar territory; working with the sound that won them raves from fans and critics alike, while refining it to its sharpest point. No longer just another blunt object, Black Cobra's music is now a razor-sharp weapon and a true force to be reckoned with. Produced by Billy Anderson (Melvins, Neurosis, Sleep, High on Fire) Chronomega is one of the heaviest records of '09 or, for that matter, any year! It is a raging slab of pure, unadulterated heaviness.

BISON b.c.
On BISON b.c.’s latest slab, Dark Ages, relentless touring - with the likes of Priestess, Baroness, 3 Inches Of Blood, and more - has fine tuned the band’s dedication to the riff to metallic perfection. Dark Ages breathes like a rabid animal that you’d find tied up in WINO’s backyard. It’s Flying V’s, analog perfection, loud & sludgy, played by hairy dudes in dirty denim jackets.
A bison is "a big, hairy, strong animal," says James Farwell, who plays guitar and sings for Bison b.c. That could as just as well describe the band, which rose from the ass-end of the continent in Vancouver, Canada, to utter its doomed, plaintive call, and tramples through the constellations on its four shaggy limbs (James, Dan And, Masa Anzai, and Brad Mackinnon). Ghostly, windswept prairies, the mythical haunts of native lore: it is all there. Self-described “Canadian dirtbags” and veterans of Vancouver's deep thrash and indie scenes, they are hitting their stride and offering up a new soundtrack for our last party before certain extinction. There is illness, abuse, apocalypse, and French horn.
Earshot will be selling copies of "DARK AGES" the night of the show (the day before official street) and the band will be signing your copies. Guess what? We will have it on sale for $7.99!

CHRISSAKES

Providence, Rhode Island’s HOWL ushers in a new age of iron and steel with their Relapse debut Full of Hell. Wave after wave of the quartet’s devastating riffs pound hard as tracks “Horns of Steel”, “Jezebel”, “The Scorpion's Last Sting”, and the insidious crawl of “Heavenless” make clear. Full of Hell rocks hard and heavy, and is as unrelenting as the title implies.

Javelina (pronounced ha-va-lE-na) started crafting their massive sound in October of 2005. Formed by ex-members of Philadelphia bands Lickgoldensky, SMUT, and Otophobia/Endless Nightmare, they spent over a year honing their sound before playing their first show. Javelina's sound embodies the massive sludgy nature of Buzzoven and Eyehategod with the raw punk intensity of His Hero Is Gone and the straightforward nature of High on Fire all wrapped up into one. Javelina will continue to write, record, and tour until they have nothing left to give.
