Backseat Dreamer EP available at Earshot

Backseat Dreamer “love not found” mcd – stick036cd – $5.99 The events of dreams are often impossible, or unlikely to occur, in physical reality: they are also outside the control of the dreamer. The exception to this is known as lucid dreaming, in which dreamers realize that they are dreaming, and are sometimes capable of changing their dream environment and controlling various aspects of the dream. The dream environment is often much more realistic in a lucid dream, and the senses heightened. Sean Neuse is Backseat Dreamer. Sean started to seriously focus on writing and recording for this project around winter of 2006, after a couple years of drumming for dirty electro group Culture Prophet. Being in that band inspired Sean to do something dancy and electronic, but at the same time Sean has set out to do something completely different being inspired by My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus and Mary Chain’s “Pyscho Candy”, early 4ad material, early factory material ,Slow Dive, Joy Division / New Order, Tom Tom Club, Depeche Mode, Brian Eno, Berlin, Bowie, Suicide and on and on and on. It’s hard for Sean to say what his influences are, he likes a lot of old school funk, soul, R & B, disco, rap, jazz, avant gard experimental stuff, old country, folk, post punk, 70's punk. Glam, new wave, no wave, dream pop, shoegaze, dance, electronic...oh and Iggy Pop too. Sean is inspired by all kinds of old and new shit constantly. “Love not found” is the debut ep by Backseat Dreamer. It’s a quick listen, less than twenty minutes, but it’s a grand start for new listeners. The debut full length will be unleashed in Spring 2009.

Theory of a Deadman had a simple but daunting goal for its third album: to make the greatest record possible.
"I always try to remind the guys and myself that there are 20 bands lined up behind us just waiting for a chance to take our place," says frontman Tyler Connolly.
"So that means we had to go in there and make a great record.
" With Scars & Souvenirs, the Vancouver trio has hit its mark. The balanced 13-track effort is the polished and passionate testament to seven years of hard work, heavy touring and diligent attention to its craft.
From the swirling grind of "By the Way" to the nasty snarl of "Crutch" to the soaring melodicism of "Not Meant to Be" and "Wait For Me," Scars & Souvenirs is a broad-reaching endeavor that puts Connolly, guitarist Dave Brenner and bassist Dean Back high in the rock pantheon, achieving creative growth without sacrificing the hard-hitting power that got them here in the first place.
"We really dug hard on this one," Connolly notes. "The longer you're in a band, the more you write songs, the better you get. We've had such a great opportunity to figure out what to do better, how to write a better song and keep building and building. That's exciting for us.

"It's a long way to the top if you want to Rock 'n Roll.
" That line from the AC/DC classic, "It's a Long Way to the Top," rings true for many legendary rock and metal bands who have persevered and overcome years of adversity to accomplish world-wide recognition. Writing good music is just one part of being successful. As difficult as that can be, creating and adhering to a sound marketing and business strategy is an equally important component to a musician’s success. Those very different challenges must be accounted for in a musician's vision if they are to have a remote shot of making a living as a songwriter. The clearer the vision, the clearer the path to be taken, although vision and marketing alone don't guarantee a successful journey. A myriad of intangibles must also come into play at exactly the right times. The few uncompromising musicians who pride themselves on the integrity of their craft can surely plan to encounter a path less traveled and sewn with more mountains and valleys than the road clogged with chameleons sacrificing their visions to cash in on the current fads.
For two decades, Jon Schaffer and his vehicle, Iced Earth, have taken the long, high road of non-compromise to reach the rarified air breathed by those few who enjoy lasting commercial success writing and performing music in the Heavy Metal genre.

When Sevendust entered Tree Sound Studio in Atlanta to write their seventh studio album, Sevendust VII: Hope and Sorrow, they had no real idea what they wanted. They just knew what they didn’t want. In the past, the group had gone in with a clear objective and spent their time putting methodically together the pieces to achieve their goal. This time, they chose to be guided by the element of surprise -- to collectively and spontaneously go with whatever they were feeling at the moment and eventually wind up at a common destination.
..
‘No only were we on different pages, I think we were in different books when we first started out,” says guitarist John Connolly, then laughs. “We were all coming from different musical perspectives and everything was a big question mark. We didn’t know what the record would sound like until we were almost finished with it, and I think it turned out to be a much better record for that reason.
”
There’s no question that Sevendust VII: Hope and Sorrow is one of the band’s strongest and most musically diverse albums to date.
Sevendust have always explored various shades of darkness and light, but on the new disc they delve into a new spectrum of vivid colors.
“Inside” is mechanized and furious, incorporating industrial samples into framework of chugging guitars, slamming beats and scathing vocals before taking flight with one of vocalist Lajon Witherspoon’s signature choruses.
“Hope” intertwines melancholy piano, sparse, repeating guitar swells, heart-rending strings, and soul-searing vocals between volleys of scream-infested animosity.
And “Prodigal Son” is a gorgeous string-laden blend of atmosphere and melody that’s custom-made for rock radio, but unlike anything else on the air.

OCTOBER SHOWS!

First off, thanks to everyone who came out for the GRAVEYARD show last night! It was a huge success and I will be posting pictures and video as soon as I find the time to get it all together. GRAVEYARD graced a crowd of around 70 attendees with 45 minutes of fuzzed out, blues-inspired deliciousness. GRAVEYARD's brand of psychedelic rock references acts from Sabbath to Blue Cheer with some Pentagram and Cream in between. Thanks to Katie and Thomas Creek Brewery, you guys for coming out and most of all GRAVEYARD for kicking out the jams. Now it is on to October where Earshot will be bringing throwback thrash metallers EXMORTUS and noise punk juggernauts YOUNG WIDOWS. Below is a poster for the EXMORTUS show on OCTOBER 8 at SNAPSHOT CAFE with headlining locals THE LAST VAN ZANT! This is an ALL AGES event that will kick off at around 10pm and be finished by midnight! So come out and support the scene!

Then on September 22nd at 8pm, we have a special evening in-store with Swedish psychedelic rockers GRAVEYARD. GRAVEYARD's "S/T" CD/LP is one of the best we have heard this year and we are honored to have them play EARSHOT! GRAVEYARD is making a special appearance on an off day while on tour with CLUTCH and THE SWORD. Here is what Tee Pee's website has to say about GRAVEYARD:
Steppin’ out of the woods of Gothenburg, Sweden and right into your head is Graveyard. The quartet features Rikard Edlund (bass), Axel Sjöberg (Drums), Joakim NilssonJonathan Ramm (Guitar/Vocals). When recording of the album was complete ex-member Truls Mörck quit and was replaced immediately by Ramm. Upon their initial formation Graveyard quickly recorded a two track demo, which would serve as a preview of what was to come. After playing only three gigs and recouping from three severe injuries, Graveyard managed to find themselves recording an album for the venerable Tee Pee Records. (Guitar/Vocals), and
Graveyard’s self titled debut resurrects the sounds of 70’s psychedelic rock. The clash of folk, psychedelic, and blues makes for a mind-bending trip back to the days of Cream, Sabbath, and Blue Cheer. The classic vibe is evident throughout, from the masterful analog production of Don Ahlsterberg (Soundtrack of our Lives, The International Noise Conspiracy, José Gonzalez) to the wah-wah guitar solos on tracks like the urgency filled “Lost in Confusion”. The hard, blues infused opener “Evil Ways” features vocalist/guitarist Joakim Nilsson unleashing a Chris Cornell-esque howl, declaring “There lies a hole in my soul, that cannot be filled.”
Track by track Graveyard brings back to life all that is right with rock and roll, from the dark haze that is brought upon by the space blues of “Blue Soul” to the rocking trip of “Submarine Blues”. The band proves they have what it takes to hang with the classics while delivering a sound that is all their own.
